I'll perform "the other stuff", but JAZZ STANDARDS ARE MY PASSION!!!
So, who does she sound like? The sweetness of jazz coupled with robust gospel influence has sculpted her unique vocal style and sound. Just as Nancy Wilson, Sade, Deniece Williams and Chante Moore are in a vocal genre all their own--stylists--such is the case with Shiron Denise.
Neophyte project produced by WOJAMM STUDIO PRODUCTIONS, ”Such is Love” (in the play box on your left) is a physical manifestation of a love I had, lost, and found again," she says. "Everybody wants to be a lover. It's what keeps the earth turning on its axis and that's what this CD is all about".
"A lot of people have said to me that I 'told their business on that cd'. I think that's funny—but really, its universal. We can all relate," she said.
This project as well as the Such is Love Project are a collaborations of work produced by herself and husband WoJamm!!
Shiron has always enjoyed "stories". She grew up listening to the stories told by the Divas of Jazz and R&B. Growing up she pretended to be Sarah Vaughn, Angela Bofil, Chaka Khan and Deniece Williams--giving concerts in her mirror performing tunes she learned listening to Detroit's then premiere jazz radio station WJZZ 105.9 FM. This she did in between choir rehearsals in preparation for Sunday services at New Liberty Baptist Church. It was here that she witnessed the art of song and entertainment listening to world renowned soul singer Laura Lee.
Singing second soprano in the award-winning Harp & Vocal Ensemble further honed her musical skills. Under the tutelage of Patricia Terry-Ross it was here she learned the art of harmonizing, sight-reading and stage grace. Simultaneously, she developed a love for theater arts in the performing arts department as a member of Readers’ Theater and the many roles she assumed for the musicals and plays. She even landed the role of Reno Sweeney in the musical “Anything Goes”
Presently, she is spreading mellifluous melodies all over metropolitan Detroit with a big band—Ben’s Friends Jazz Ensemble led by the renowned Benjamin Pruitt. It was while with this band she was donned by the great Marcus Belgrave, "The Belle of Jazzy R&B". With that in mind, she's and keeping things smooth and funky with her R&B Group “PointBlank” (finalists in the 2008 V98.7 Jazz Discovery Series)--check out the video on your left...
